The main symptom of Parkinsonism is tremors. In 75% of all cases of Parkinsonism these tremors are mainly seen in proximities i.e. in hands and in feet. These tremors may involve any part of the body. These symptoms aggravates during work mainly of arms and in hands. These symptoms also subside by supporting the effected limb. During the rest these tremors occur at the rate of 4-6 htz/sec, and during work these increases up to 8-12 htz. /sec. Usually these tremors are best seen during the resting position of body. Patient feels discomfort while writing. If he writes forcefully the words he write are small than usual. Patient is unable to open the buttons of his shirt or feel discomfort in holding spoon or cup etc.
In Parkinsonism there are good results of Yoga, exercise and Pranayama. We can give strength to our muscles and to the nerves. It also improves mental and spiritual weakness, neurasthenia and nervous breakdowns. The main asanas useful in Parkinsonism are
After the practice of these asanas continuously for six months regularly patient feels incredible changes in his body especially in muscular and nervous power. Lifeless nerves and muscles get rejuvenation from these asanas.
In the beginning patient get tiered due to over excitement of the nerves, while doing these asanas. In this stage easy asanas should be performed. But after few days, increase of serotonin and dopamine in blood lead to special mental enjoyment which makes the life joyful, charming, awesome. Beside these asanas patient can include small joints exercises, pranayama and exercises into his pack of asanas. In pranayama he can do deep breathing exercise, Anulom-Vilom ujjayi, naadi shodhan pranayama also. In hot season he can include shitali and sitkari pranayama.
Whenever patient gets time he should perform ‘dhyana’. Sit in any sitting asana as in padamasana or sukhasana or should do dhyan in shavasana in lying position. Close your eyelids gently, and concentrate on each inhalation and exhalation. It should be performed after getting up early in the morning or before going to bed at night at least for 10 minutes. It shows miserable results within few days. These concentration on the breath shows great recovery in the disease and should be done in awaken position. During this process mind should only concentrate on the breathing only, not on any other things as of any past or future happenings.
Patient should take a long walk in an open air environment up to 1 to 6 kilometers. He should walk on green grass bare footed at least for 10 to 15 min. Sleep by opening the windows so that fresh air should enter into his room. Swimming is a good exercise for the patient of Parkinsonism.
Patient should give a brisk smile after he awake in the morning. His smile makes his day and life happy. As we start our day with smile all works we perform all day gets easier and we complete them happily without any stress. Smile removes loneliness, fear, tension and stress from the life. It gives us healthy and positive energy to us. Patient should have these feelings that he is not any sick person, I am a healthy person, I am not suffering from any disease, I am prosperous, all my muscles are healthy, there is no rigidity in them, I can walk easily, I can turn, I can walk, my each cell tissue and organ is rejuvenating . When a patient is full of self confidence then this disease can be defeated easily. When the patient awake by feeling these types of feelings his internal soul and his body gets a real energy and he feels energetic and charming which causes good impact on his muscles and on his nerves. Whenever you feel negative feelings you should just start thinking positive, as a gardener removes extra grass or unwanted plants from his garden so that all the nutrients of the garden can reach up to the flowers and fruits he wants. All negative thoughts decrease the energy of the body.
The patient of Parkinsonism should perform his work calmly. He should very gentle and calm every time. He should express his abilities. Patient should remain busy every time. He should perform all his yoga, asanas and pranayama at time. He should perform his every work at time. There should be no space to any negativity in life.
All above processes increases the level of dopamine, serotonin, and happy massagers (neuro transmitters hormones), methyl ethyl amine in the blood. Which leads to decrease in symptom like, depression, stress, concentration, memory loss, loneliness etc.
